SD cards work in a similar way to computers in that they don't always completely delete files & until that information has been formatted. Instead, they simply mark the available space as usable again and then later write over it.

What does this mean to you?

It means you're in luck because contrary to common belief that once pictures are deleted off a digital camera they are permanently wiped off - they are not.

Digital pictures are stored on SD cards as a file. These files occupy a fixed space on SD cards. Once deleted, your pictures will no longer be recognized by the digital camera, however the pictures are still there!
